Your Wedding Bouquet

Wedding bouquet

We are now in August and it won’t be long before the warmth of spring brings the flowers back to life with their vibrant colours and beautiful fragrances. If you’re planning a wedding, it’s a good time to think about the flowers that will be available for your special day. Think about the colours and the fragrances that will fill the venue. Remember to pick the flower that best reflects your personality.

Roses look especially beautiful as either a bouquet or table arrangement. The rose is, according to fossil evidence, 35 million years old.

The rose is considered a symbol of balance. The beauty of this flower expresses promise, hope, and new beginnings. It is contrasted by thorns symbolising defence, loss, and thoughtlessness. A yellow rose symbolises joy, protection against envious lovers, and mature love.

The rose also comes in so many beautiful colours and shades, so it makes an ideal flower to have as part of a wedding day.

Another wonderful idea is using our beautiful New Zealand native flowers. Native flowers in weddings can be tricky. For a start, there are no native flowers that are commercially grown or available as a cut flower!!

But you can use the foliage and the buds of Pohutukawa which look like interesting berries if you want to incorporate something native into your bouquet.

Here are some more ideas to add a touch of NZ to your wedding bouquet:

  • Shells
  • Paua shell
  • Beach shells
  • Bunny Tails
  • Flax leaves
  • Woven flax
  • Flax flowers
  • Ferns
  • Grasses
  • Feathers

There are so many wonderful ideas, take your time, use your eyes and your heart to get the best possible arrangements for your special day.
